Cross Country Skiing

At Chippewa National Forest alone you can enjoy over 290 miles of non-motorized trails for ski trips.  There is nothing like the sound of your ski as it glides through the trees. Get to enjoy the day with the refreshing scent of balsam as you glide down the hill. Check out also Shingobee Hills, which is just minutes away south off Highway 34.  The area was once known as the Shingobee Winter Playground and was one of the first downhill ski areas in Minnesota back in the day. It is quite famous for cross-country skiing and sledding too and features six miles of looped trails. Check out also Itasca State Park, just 35 miles from Walker and offers 13 miles of beautiful ski trails perfect for classic and skate skiing.
